American Hustle
consolidates David O Russell’s prominence as a tramp film producer. After tackling a genre-bending heist escapade “Three Kings, 1999”, rowdy boxing comedy “The Fighter, 2010” and original loving
comedy “Silver Linings Playbook, 2012”, the director’s seventh feature is a wonderful
mosaic of 1970s Americana.
The tract of land could simply have been incorrect as an abusive
invention had not an opening title card clarify that, “some of this actually
happened”.Always a confidence minter, Russell brings a darkly comic
tone to the abusive involving, during other things, money, sex, political
corruption and relations dynamics.
It is loosely based on a real-life FBI sting process. He “Batman star Bale, gaining 40 pounds for
the role” is a beer-bellied owner of a New Jersey dry clean-up firm. His actual
dealing, however, is fleecing trustful investors. His co-worker in love and sin
is a previous stripper now posing as a British nobleman “a cleavage-baring
Adams”. Their scams tackle when their latest client turns out to be a cocky
federal mediator “Bradley Cooper”.
To ahead thicken the tract of land, an altruistic mayor “Jeremy
Renner, doing his top Elvis Presley, modeling” and the scamster’s sneaky wife “Jennifer
Lawrence” are thrown into the join.
The film has before now snagged more than a few Golden Globe
awards. Will the Oscars follow suit?
